July 2016

Dear Readers,

It's summertime…time to go on vacation, sit on the beach, or visit some exotic location. And it is a great time to catch up on your reading.  So grab your beach umbrella, one of those frilly drinks with the umbrella, and enjoy the surf and sun while you read one of the industry’s best presentation skills books.

Last month, I asked you to send me the presentation books you would add to your summer reading list.  In addition to My PowerPoint 2016 and Illuminate, here are a few of the favorites suggested by our community:

  • Presentation Zen: Simple Ideas on Presentation Design and Delivery, Enhanced Edition (Voices That Matter) - Garr Reynolds
  • Presentation Zen Design: Simple Design Principles and Techniques to Enhance Your Presentations - Garr Reynolds
  • The Presentation Secrets of Steve Jobs: How to Be Insanely Great in Front of Any Audience - Carmine Gallo
  • How to Design TED-Worthy Presentation Slides: Presentation Design Principles from the Best TED Talks - Akash Kari
  • Building PowerPoint Templates: Step by Step with the experts -  Echo Swinford and Julie Terberg
  • Why Most PowerPoint Presentations Suck - Rick Altman

Have a great month - my bags are packed and I can't wait to catch up on my reading and those umbrella drinks. Thank you for your emails and suggestions.

How to Use Stock Imagery Like a Pro and Where To Find It

Before the internet and e-commerce sites, the world of stock photography was an intimidating and wallet-draining world of printed catalogs and rights-managed images with few suppliers— Getty Images and Corbis being the two biggest. These days, there are hundreds of sources for stock photography at all price levels—even for free—so, you have few excuses for using low resolution, cheesy or outright stolen imagery.
